“I cannot remember such regret in leaving an area and a holiday home.”
In such idyllic surroundings many guests are happy to relax by the pool, read on the terraces, wander around the surrounding vineyards and play the odd game of boules or table tennis. However there are many other activities nearby to enjoy.
There are lively markets in nearby towns such as Brignoles, St Maximin and Cotignac. Aix also has larger markets. These all sell fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables; chickens, ducks, guinea fowl and quail; oysters, mussels, sardines and other fish; olives and cheeses. Local pottery, baskets and cheap clothing also feature.
You can reach any coastal resort easily if you drop down to the motorway, although in high season the beaches will be very busy.
At the spectacular Gorges de
and nearby Lac de La Croix in the North you can hire pedalos, windsurfers and canoes.
There is a tennis court for hire in the local hamlet (almost always empty) and others in nearby villages
There is an excellent Golf Course in nearby Brignoles called Barbaroux, visited by many professionals who consider it to be the best on the Cote D’Azur . Look at their website if interested at www.barbaroux.com
There is a good, reliable horse riding establishment at Camps De La Source.
You can hire canoes and equipment at Correns, although the water level can be low during the summer months.
In Correns rock climbing tuition is available, and the cliffs in the gorge present a challenge to experienced climbers.
This is not a region for haute cuisine, although there are many small restaurants in nearby villages (recommendations in house) and there is an excellent and atmospheric Alain Ducasse restaurant just South of Brignoles.
Full details of all the above are kept at the house.
